Naturelle, the organic division of The Greenery, is expanding its range with organic asparagus. The ‘white gold’ from Limburg province is cultivated by the family-owned company Teboza based in Helden. The asparagus are of high quality and have a delicious subtle favour. They form a fine addition to the range of organic seasonal products that Naturelle offers its customers.

Growers affiliated with The Greenery and Naturelle, the organic branch of The Greenery, work hard to ensure the sustainability of their cultivation and processing. Our front runners in sustainability receive the Nature Counts label. The label was awarded to four new growers on Friday, 13 April during the Coforta Day held at the Floriade flower and horticultural show. This time, Oirschot Organics was the first organic grower affiliated with Naturelle to be awarded the label. Since their introduction, the products of these front runners have come to feature prominently in The Greenery’s wide range of products.

Naturelle will be joining The Greenery at the Fruit Logistica fresh produce trade show to be held in Berlin from 8 – 10 February. Fruit Logistica is a international meeting place for traders in the fruit, vegetable and potato industry. Over 2,400 business enterprises will be represented at the fair. Naturelle has purchased three new packaging machines. “We now pack most of the products that our growers are unable to pack themselves in our own shed. This enables us to respond to our customers’ wishes in a more efficient and flexible manner,” says Donny van Dam, Site Manager at Naturelle.

Lean and Green is a sustainable logistics programme executed by Connekt on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment. In 2012, the programme will support 250 leading companies involved in sustainable logistics to reduce their CO2 emissions by over 20% within five years. Companies can become front-runners by submitting a plan of action that describes how they intend to achieve these goals. The plan of action must meet certain criteria.

Naturelle is The Greenery’s organic division. It provides a year-round and full range of certified organic vegetables and fruit to supermarket chains and organic food shops in the Netherlands and elsewhere. “To be able to offer a full range throughout the year we import products to supplement the supply from our Dutch growers. For example, we have added delicious freshly green limes from Mexico to our standard range,” says Efrain Saucedo Nunez, who buys the limes on behalf of Naturelle.

Organic products are seeing strong growth in the otherwise stagnant Dutch food market. This conclusion was published in the 2010 Biomonitor. 2010 saw Dutch consumers buy more organic foods, the tenth consecutive year of growth! Turnover grew by over 13%. Supermarkets did especially good business. Potatoes, fruit and vegetables still represent the largest organic product group in the Dutch market.

The first organic cucumbers in week 11, launched the Dutch horticultural season for Naturelle. You can find already organic cucumbers from Dutch Naturelle growers in the supermarket. Coming weeks, the supermarket shelves will be completed with several organic greenhouse vegetables from the Netherlands.
